New educational resource: SOGI’s Story
Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is pervasive across many parts of the world. Addressing this burden of discrimination has been identified as a key issue by the Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions.
Recognising the importance and power of education, SOGI’s Story has been designed in consultation with regional advisers, to address the multiple layers of violence and discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) persons in African Commonwealth countries.
SOGI’s Story is an educational comic book and video. The aim of the resource is to enhance learning and awareness through interactive dialogue, highlight some of the challenges that LGBTI people face on a daily basis, and dispel damaging myths and stigmas.
The resource is based on research undertaken by the Australian Human Rights Centre, Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales. The resource was commissioned by the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions with funding from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs.
