A practical guide for NHRIs on working with civil society to uphold the human rights of people who face discrimination due to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics

Many people still face discrimination, victimisation and persecution because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or sex characteristics and thirty-five Commonwealth countries still have laws which criminalise LGBT people.

Across the Commonwealth, both NHRIs and civil society human rights defenders are working to ensure that the human rights of LGBTI+ people are protected.

To mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) 2022, the Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (CFNHRI) has joined with the Commonwealth Equality Network to publish this factsheet for NHRIs on good practice in working with civil society on the human rights of people who face discrimination due to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics.
