Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL)

Mandate

Promotion and protection of human rights in Sierra Leone.

The commission was enshrined by the Human Rights Commission Act No. 9 of 2004 and Commissioners appointed on 11 December 2006.


Functions

Investigate on complaints or on its own into human rights violations and make recommendations;
Public education on human rights;
Advising government on national, regional and international obligations on human rights; and,
Monitoring and documenting human rights violations, including an annual publication on the State of Human Rights in Sierra Leone.
